Automated Window Selection and Measurement (FLEXWIN)

In this web page we present an algorithm for the automated selection of measurement windows on pairs of observed and synthetic seismograms. We illustrate the cross-correlation and multi-taper measurement techniques, and indicate how these measurements can be used in adjoint tomography.

August 2009
FLEXWIN was used by Carl Tape in his work on adjoint tomography of Southern California. Carl has a good web page with links to his work. The papers are available from my publications page.

April 2009
Our automated window selection algorithm FLEXWIN is now complete, and has undergone rigorous user testing. It is now published in GJI (see publications page). The FLEXWIN package is open-source, and is available via the Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics.

International Polar Year - Antarctica

We are actively participating in the International Polar Year, and are running a seimic experiment called CASE-IPY in Antarctica. For the latest information regarding the project, take a look at this dedicated webpage, or the Sismordia blog.

Dec 2009
Start of third CASE-IPY summer campaign Dec 13th.

Dec 2008
Start of second CASE-IPY summer campaign Dec 14th.

Feb 2008
First CASE-IPY summer campaign is over. Preliminary results are available here.

Dec 2007
First CASE-IPY summer campaign starts Dec 28th.

July 2007
Our project has been selected by the Agence National de la Recherche (ANR) for funding.
